Oobituary: Where Memories Are Mightier That Death!

Oobituary: Where Memories Are Mightier That Death!

Our life is like a long holiday trip on a one-way cruise; where we meet new faces on board, befriend many, and grow feelings for few. However, everyone here has a ticket with an expiry date and that date is different for every individual. The ticket expires and for that person, that is the end of the trip. But we dont mourn the departure. We instead, bid them goodbye with smiles across our faces and after they have left, we cherish the beautiful times that we spent together. That is how we keep them by our side forever. As the saying goes:
He who has gone, so we but cherish his memory, abides with us, more potent, nay, more present than the living man.~Antoine de Saint-Exupery
When our loved ones set off for a journey beyond life, it is our duty to see that he has a happy journey ahead. So how do we figure out how he would have wanted things or us to be when he is not around anymore? One way is to put ourselves in his shoes and think what would I have wanted my beloved to do when I am gone? When I ask myself that question, grieving is never on my list. That would in fact be a disgrace to my life. I would have wanted them to treasure our pleasant memories and glow with joy whenever they remembered me. I would never want to be a reason for tears, unless of course they are tears of joy. So why not do unto others what we want others to do unto us. Let the lives of the lost ones be a reason to celebrate. Lets revive them through obituaries.
One question ringing in the minds of a few would be what the hell are these obituaries? to uncomplicated things, obituaries are short biographical notes published mostly in newspapers regarding the funeral or a death anniversary of someone. These days, obituary services are available online too.
An initiative by Mr. Rajith Rajappan and his colleague Ruhee Sabins, Oobituary .com is one such site where you can keep your loved ones alive eternally. You can upload pictures, visuals, audios and videos to make the obituaries more effective. It is a platform for sharing your memories with people all across the globe. You can also keep it confined to a few of your friends and relatives. They will be notified through their emails and after signing up, they can access your post. Unless deactivated by a special request, your page shall remain active forever. You dont even have to pay penny for it.
They have a page on facebook that received a huge acceptance and admiration. As per the weekly reports, it has 307 monthly active users, 107 of which joined last week, 1240 people like the page, of which 174 likes are from last week and it had 120 visitors this week.
So grieve no more, for who once was deserves better than that!
