Everyday, millions of Indians choose their favorite brands. Some brands succeed, some brands fail, some linger in our collective memories long after the brand has ceased to exist. The CNBC AWAAZ Consumer Awards is our way of applauding those brands that millions of Indians have chosen to buy, to try, to experience and to own.


The CNBC AWAAZ Consumer Awards 2009 are based on an exhaustive consumer survey done by The Nielsen Company across 12 cities spanning 11 states in India. This year, we will be rewarding brands across 21 product and service categories.


A quantitative research exercise was carried out in 12 cities spanning 11 states in India. A total of 2,000 interviews were conducted across urban centers . We interviewed male and female adults in the age group of 18-45 years, from SEC A, B and C households.

To ensure proper representation of the universe, we identified target respondents through a random sampling process.

In each city, a pre-decided number of starting point addresses were selected while ensuring geographic coverage. A fixed number of interviews were conducted around each starting point by contacting the households using the Right Hand Rule. Right Hand Rule helps to eliminate interviewer bias in selecting the household. Within a selected household, an adult respondent was selected for the interview.

Consumers who were current users or intenders for the category in the near future were interviewed for those categories to arrive at the list of "Preferred Brands" and the key drivers in the selection of those brands.

The relationship between a brand and its consumers matters the most in brand marketing and thats the key to brand success.
