One Man And His Campervan Visit North Norfolk

By:

The popular BBC TV series based on Martin Doreys book, One Man and his Camper Van, aired in mid- February 2011 on BBC2 every weekday night for two weeks, earning Martin many new fans.

When he is not travelling the country in his VW Campervan, Martin Dorey is a writer, keen surfer and cook. His first book, The Camper Van Cookbook, was published May 2010 by the Salt Yard Book Company. Martin is offering signed copies of his book on his website.

It was filmed over 5 weeks in the summer of 2010 with each episode taking place in a different area of the country and sees Martin meeting local producers, foraging, fishing and finding out about locally produced food, with the help of local experts and fellow holiday makers. He then cooks with whatever ingredients he finds, either in his beautiful 1970s VW Type 2 Bay Window camper van, called Gordy, over an open fire or on the BBQ.

Martin and his campervan covered 2500 miles in the show and visited some wonderful parts of the UK, including The Trossachs, Angus, Northumberland, The Lakes, The Dales, North Norfolk, Caldicott, Pembrokeshire, The New Forest and North Devon, where he lives.

In North Norfolk (Series 1, Episode 3), Martin gets knee deep in crab-infested mud to pick fresh samphire for his meal of fresh Norfolk crab with lemon risotto and marsh samphire. For his campervan dinner prepared and eaten in a cider-producing orchard, he creates a taste of the Australian outback, by cooking Dutch Oven Damper Aussie style damper bread cooked over an open fire. However, its a good job he made plenty of the dough as his first attempt doesnt quite go to plan!

For anyone considering visiting the North Norfolk towns and villages along the Coast like Cromer, Mundesley, Sea Palling, Sheringham, Waxham and Wells-Next-the-Sea, the countryside ones like Fakenham, Holt and North Walsham or those in the Norfolk Broads like Hoveton, Horsey, Potter Heigham and Stalham we can show you a wide range of holiday accommodation, from bed and breakfasts, guest houses, hotels, cottages, holiday parks, camping and caravan parks, along with attractions, things to do and other services such as local restaurants, pubs and shops, to cater to your needs when visiting North Norfolk.
