On Page Optimization - Creating Powerful Meta Tags

META description tags are also important for every page on your web site. In some search engine results, the text beneath the linked title comes directly from the information included in the META description tag. They look like this:

Despite the fact that not all search engines use the description included in the META description tags, all of them do read the description tag. They also use the description included there as one of the factors considered during the ranking process.

META Description for Google The catch with META description tags is that they work differently for different search engines. For example, Google gives very little weight to META descriptions. Instead, the Google search engine looks at the text on a page, and on the SERPs, Google does not display the META description text either. What does show is the content surrounding the instance of the keyword on your site. Google calls this a snippet.

META Description for Yahoo The Yahoo! search engine, however, does put weight on META description text, and it uses that text directly under the web site link on SERPs. So, what does it mean? First, it means that META description tag is not the only important piece of coding web pages. However, it also means that you do not want to skip over the META description tag because some search engines actually do use it.

Creating Powerful META Keywords Tag

Keywords Meta tags are among important factors behind indexing. While using this tag:

1.Only use keyword phrases that are used elsewhere on your page. If the keyword phrases do not get additional exposure, they will be ignored here. Other places where keywords get good exposure are within the and Description tags, and within the body of your content.
2.Include the plural version of important phrases, e.g. golf shirt and golf shirts, so that your page is found for both searches.
3.If there are common typos or misspellings of a keyword of interest to you, then include the incorrect variations.
4.Include brand name, industry and association terms that people may search.

5.Be careful not to repeat individual words too frequently. Sometimes your phrases need to include the same word in several contexts, e.g. shoes in the following terms: womens shoes, mens shoes, athletic shoes. There is no strict rule, but try not to repeat individual words more than 5 times.
6.Include geographic qualifiers if they are appropriate to your page, e.g. Florida vacation homes, Palm Beach County Rentals, Free delivery in Miami.
