On Homemade Birthday Cards

Gifting your loved one a homemade birthday card is an excellent way to add a personalized touch to their birthday. It is a unique route to go especially since e-greetings are more popular than even store-bought greeting cards now; almost no one will be expecting you to create a birthday card from scratch! A handmade birthday card is also a memento of the birthday of your loved one, something they can look back on and cherish later on to remember the day or to remember you.

If you would like a happy and joyous card, try using warm colors. Warm colors are usually used in projects that are meant to evoke positive, happy emotions. Oranges, yellows, and reds will make your recipient feel warm and happy. If you would like your card to be more sweet and sensitive, try using pastels or cool colors. Cool colors tend to make people feel relaxed and at ease, which is exactly the mood you are looking for if your card is meant to be calming. Feel free to mix the colors as you see fit; these are only loose guidelines. Remember that colors also symbolize other things. You may want red on your sweet and sensitive card because it symbolizes the emotion of love when shaped into a heart.

Do not be afraid of white, either. Decorating white with splashes of other colors can be far more striking than covering the card in color if you do it right. Do not be afraid to play around with different ideas until you find the perfect one for you.

Writing a poem or a small blurb on how much your loved one matters to you, or well-wishing them on their birthday, is another special touch you can have in your card. Typed interiors may seem more professional, but your handwriting, however beautiful or atrocious, is what's going to really make the card feel special.

Your card does not have to be rectangular or even square. Oval, circular, and triangular cards are also possibilities. Think outside of the box. Using stick-on decorations or stickers can also add flare: flowers, birthday cakes, and hearts are some ideas. Creating a graffiti effect by cutting up colored paper and pasting it on, decorating with ribbons or old cloths, lace and dried flowers, and glow-in-the-dark paint are all options. The sky is the limit, so get creative and make something beautiful!
