There is no doubt that if you have to have a high risk auto insurance you're probably scared to death to get quotes.

There are many reasons that you may have to have high risk insurance. You may have had too many accidents, you may have too many infractions, you may have been caught driving under the influence or drinking alcohol and driving, or having another problem that requires you to purchase SR 22 or high risk insurance for your vehicle.

First of all, realize that high risk insurance only needs to be carried for a certain period of time. This means that for that period of time you are going to have to pay the extra fees that are associated with high risk insurance. But some day it will be over if you're careful.

It's unfortunate, but it's something that you're going to need to do in order to drive on state roads. In some states, they keep a record of your insurance, if you drop your insurance, cancel your policy, or do not carry high risk insurance, you can be pulled over, fined, and possibly even thrown in jail. So follow your court mandated high risk insurance laws and make sure that you carry it faithfully.

Now there are several things you can do it you have to carry the SR 22 type of insurance, and it might be called something different in your state, but it's high risk insurance and if it's expensive.

First of all, take a good look at the vehicle you drive. You may find that you can get a lower insurance rate by reducing the value of your vehicle, or even, carrying the insurance on a vehicle that is paid for.

Carrying a high risk insurance policy on a vehicle that you have a loan on is going to be extremely expensive. This may mean that it's decision time for you. If you add up your car payment, and your high risk insurance payment, and find that it's not something you can afford, it may be time to trade your vehicle in.

Be sure to trade your vehicle in on a sedate vehicle and not a sports car, and if at all possible, don't get a four-wheel-drive. This is one of the ways that you can save money if you do have to carry the high risk insurance.

You can also save money on your high risk vehicle insurance by caring only the state mandated liability limits. If you do this, realize that you are probably not protected for personal injury, you may not have enough coverage to protect your home, and that if you do not have enough coverage, you can be sued if you're found at fault in an accident.

So while it's unfortunate that you have to carry the SR 22 or high risk insurance, there are ways to save money. Add up all the figures, get a few high risk insurance comparison quotes, and possibly trade your vehicle in. Then make sure that you follow the law and are a careful driver and someday it will all be over.
