Oh Hello Reception, There's An Eye In My Room: Keeping Tabs On Your Personal Possessio

Every year the hotel chain, Travelodge release a list of the things theyve found left behind in their hotel rooms. And every year it seems to get a little more bizarre.

When it comes to hotel room lost and found were talking everything from life-sized skeletons, to six-foot high model helicopters. 2007 it seems was the year for lost bling. One hotel found a suitcase full of diamonds and another a Lord Mayors chain.

Other more gruesome discoveries included an urn of ashes, false limbs, teeth and even a glass eye (it was blue, in case you were wondering).

But its not just objects people lose.

Staff of one American hotel chain, Clubhouse Inn were flummoxed after finding a cat in one of their rooms. In fact shockingly several hotels have reported finding pets. But if you think thats bad, included on Travelodges list [https://www.travelodge.co.uk/press_releases/press_release.php?id=284 ] was a child!

Then theres the Midland hotel in Manchester, which reported finding a gas mask - and a boxing team once left a full-sized weighing machine in one room. Presumably it had weighed too much to move.

Other Travelodge finds include 30 toy Power Rangers, a hollowed out bible stuffed with money and a last will and testament. Although hoteliers usually try to contact a lost items owners its wise to take a few precautions:

To avoid losing your treasures make sure you check thoroughly before leaving your room. Have any important items locked away in the hotel safe. If possible leave valuables at home and pack lightly.

The most commonly lost items are phone chargers, so check all of the sockets before you leave. Stick a list of what youve taken to the inside of your suitcase so you can check whats missing. And its easy to say but try to avoid packing in a rush!

If you cant find something then retrace your steps. If youve already left then ring the hotel and arrange for it to be delivered or collected. And if the worst comes to the worst, remember you can always try to claim for lost items on either travel insurance or home insurance (as most items you travel with should qualify as personal possessions). That said your insurer may draw the line at replacing a pet cat!
