Offshore Oil Rig Jobs: How To Get Hired By Sneaking Past Hr

By:

Sending in your resume for offshore oil rig jobs? No matter how good your resume is, getting picked for an interview is like playing the lottery. Hundreds of people apply for the same job once it is advertised. Getting your resume noticed without looking like a fool or trouble-maker is very difficult. But what if you can get an interview without going through HR? Here is a way to do just that.

When you see offshore drilling jobs advertised, don't jump the gun by immediately sending in your resume. As long as you don't miss the deadline, there is always time to send your job application later.

You don't need to be anxious and impatient. Do some research on the oil drilling company beforehand. Find out the address of the company and whether there are any other branches or offices. Look up the company website and visit their employee forum if it exists. This employee forum or online bulletin board can be unofficial and hosted by an unrelated third party. Don't forget to ask your friends and family - you may luck out and get some useful information.

Visit the company, stake it out, and find out where their employees spend their time away from the office. Where do they go for lunch? Where do they go after work? Where do they go to drink after work? Find a way to meet them socially, take a genuine interest in them and make friends with them. Don't interrogate them, don't force them, listen to them and they will eventually open up to you. This is exactly what top salesmen do to get the information they need to make their multi-million dollar sales deals.

Don't worry about failing - they won't remember you and you can still send your job application to the company as normal. But after you fall on your face a few times, you'll get the hang of it. You'll know how to find out who is the best person to speak to about the job - this is usually the supervisor or department manager who needs the worker and NOT the HR Manager. In smaller offshore drilling companies, you want to speak with the toolpusher (the oil rig manager) who needs 20 roustabouts and not Mr. Harry Manger the head of the human resource department.

Before you get hired for offshore oil rig jobs, you need to get called for an interview. Competing with hundreds of other job seekers for the attention of the human resources officer is very difficult even when you have some experience, and nearly impossible if you have no experience. Which simply means you need to bypass HR and find another way to speak to the hiring manager.
