Obtain A Degree With Virtual Education

By:

Online degree programs have recently become popular with the rise of Internet technology such as high speed Internet, Video Conferencing, and Remote server access. Students are able to take advantage of all the resources available to their peers at actual universities including having a face-to-face conversation with their professor (over video-chat). This online process has also made it much easier on teachers to schedule office hours, check essay submissions using online plagiarism tools, and utilize automatic grading programs for tests.

Benefits of online degree programs are numerous and are based mainly around the same principles as telecommuting to a job. With online degrees you are able to set your own hours, some tests will require specific log in and log out times but even these are still flexible. You are able to work from home, and better yet, you can attend first-rate universities even if you live on the other side of the country and are working full-time. Without losing the income that is usually associated with being a full-time student, there is a plethora of new people gaining college degrees that previously were unable to.

Quality of learning comes into question and is probably the foremost issue with online degree programs. While students are not as closely monitored by their teachers and administrators they could be getting outside help with tests and essays, but behind the guise of the internet you can hide cheating much easier. In addition, the actual caliber of the degree sometimes comes into question and needs to be verified by the six regional accreditation boards.

The U.S. Department of Education recognizes the Distance Education and Training Council as the acting authority on all things concerning the accreditation of these programs. There are six regional accreditation boards in the United States that are responsible for verifying the validity and caliber of these institutions. The job of these boards is difficult because they are required to provide regulation while still allowing the flexibility that makes these online degree programs so desirable.

Some of the largest online universities currently include University of Phoenix and Devry University. While technical degrees, which taught a trade, were the first specialties of these universities they are now accredited to provide everything from certificates up to doctoral degrees. Traditional Universities have realized the amount of potential by offering online classes and many of these establishments now offer virtually every class you need to graduate, online.
