Observe, Plan, Act- Effective Business Planning Secrets

By:

You cant do anything if you do not have a plan in place. This goes for cleaning up your car as well as going to the grocery store, to restructuring a business and restructuring how a business does its job. While some things are minor and some jobs are very complex and millions of dollars hinge on its success, they all have something in common; namely they need to be done properly the first time.

The old saying reads something like- If youre not planning to do it right the first time, then dont bother doing it. This saying and piece of advice is so true, particularly in the world of business. But no matter how small the project, washing your car or going to the store, not having a plan in place can often run you into serious problems. First of all, you'll complete the task in the most efficient manner possible because you'll have to make the choices on the fly without room for error.

Every time you change the order of the process you add time to the final job. Without planning the process correctly ahead of time, you run the risk of having to backtrack and even worse, redo work that has already been completed. This isn't only a waste of time, but a huge waste of money, and in some instances it could cost you even more than money. These risks are almost never worth taking and should always be avoided.

Not all situations will completely eliminate the possibility of risk, but the more risk that you eliminate from any given job; the more likely you will complete the job successfully. This seems simple in theory but in the high speed world we live in, where decisions need to be made in a matter of moments and are sometimes irreversible, it is trickier to pull off than one might think. That is why it is so important to do your homework, have a plan and have the right people in place to carry out the plan.

What you're trying to do is get the job done with zero mistakes. Remember, shutting down any production or work to make a change is risky in itself. You have to be sure that what you get after the work is done outweighs the expense of actually doing the work. This takes forethought and careful planning, and without those two things, it might be a lost cause.
