It is the "forgetting" the common things very well known, we all experience every day. In contrast to amnesia (lack of registration) just described, this type is very rarely due to brain injury. The nerve cells are intact: the memories are there, but something interferes with your call at the precise time. What is interference?

Dr. Sigmund Freud was the first to show us that virtually all psychiatrists and psychologists now believe: a desire not remember diverts or blocks the desire to remember. Nietzsche summed it up, both the process and its psychological basis, in Beyond Good and Evil, like this: "I did it, says my memory. I could not have done that, says my pride, remaining inexorable. The memory, finally relented.

You know that the girl whose boyfriend, unfortunately, forgotten an appointment and therefore did not attend the appointment. He can apologize You may even confess frankly be forgotten. Will be in vain. She knows, perhaps better than he, who unconsciously (if not consciously) he really did not want to meet. She may know nothing of psychology and abnormalities, but "feel" and is right.

We forget also the debt: the ten dollars I owe to my friend, lost a bet at cards last week, the Store account John We often forget the things we do not want to remember.
This always happens even in science. Darwin wrote in his autobiography that, for many years, "followed a strict rule: when faced with a published fact, a new observation or idea as opposed to my general results, did not lack, or just a memorandum regarding , as found by experience that such facts and ideas might well escape the memory more easily than those who were favorable.

A doctor friend reported to Dr. Ernest Jones the following case:
His wife was seriously ill with some obscure disease, stomach, he could well have been tuberculosis, when anxiously pondered on the possible nature of the disease, noted to his wife: "We take comfort in thinking that there was no case of tuberculosis in the family . She turned to him very surprised and said, "Have you forgotten you that my mother died from tuberculosis and my sister really recovered after that illness that doctors have considered it a lost cause?" The anxiety of it, afraid that would obscure the symptoms of tuberculosis, had made him forget certain facts that were completely known.

You can sometimes clearly dissect the association process leading to the oblivion of a memory and replacing others. (This occurs daily in the course of the psychoanalysis of patients.).
