Obama's Stimulus Package For Mothers - Applying Just Became Easier!

By:

One of the single most detrimental factors toward people returning to college is the vast amount of paperwork that is necessary in order to get into the system. Regardless of the major that you choose, or the homework that you will have, the initial paperwork for financial aid, specifically the FAFSA forms, keep many people away from college. Here are few tips to help you get through this hurdle so that you can get the education that you desire.

Whether you are a single mom with a family, or a college kid right out of high school, researchers have revealed that the low take-up rate of federal aid programs such as the Pell Grant, the HOPE Grant, and other tax credit programs, is likely due to how difficult it is to complete the application process.

Taking the FAFSA for example, the Free Application Federal Student Aid is actually five pages long consisting of 127 questions. If this sounds ridiculous, it actually is. This form is actually longer and more difficult to complete than most federal tax returns. Because of this, many people do not apply for the proper grants or tax credits that would allow them to go back to school.

This discrepancy in the amount of money that is available, opposed to the amount of people that actually would qualify, is huge. In fact, over 1 million high school students each year fail to apply for financial aid despite being eligible to receive grants for college.

Studies have shown that this complexity affects students and people that come from low income, nonwhite, and non-English speaking background. What the President and the Vice President would like to do a simplified the entire financial aid process.

How will they do that? By eliminating the FAFSA and all of its complicated calculations.

So what is the proposed solution for this problem? Apparently, there is a movement to modify the tax forms that are filled out every year. There would be a simple checkbox on the form which would authorize colleges and universities to access the tax information which would eliminate the need for a separate application.

This way, students would simply be sent the information necessary that would tell them how much federal aid they would qualify for and this would also be sent to prospective colleges without them needing to fill out any kind of application.

With Obama's desire to send single moms back to college to earn degrees that will better their economic situation for themselves and their families, this would be a vital step in ensuring that more people would be motivated to go back to college due to eliminating the complexity involved in filling out financial aid forms.

There are also many other easier ways to find funding for college. These come in the form of grants and scholarships. You can discover which ones you may qualify for by talking to your financial aid advisor or locating this information on the Internet.
