Obama Reviewing Regulations To See That Multiple Rules Do Not Hinder Economic Growth

By:

Very recently President Obama ordered the reviewing of the regulations of the government to see that multiple rules do not hinder economic growth; the move is aimed at giving a fillip to small business units. He inked an executive order that would see to it that the economy of the country that was recovering would not be stifled by red tape and the health of citizens, public safety as well as the environment would remain protected.

In the opinion page of Wall Street Journal that had conservative leanings, Obama as the Democrat wrote, "Regulations do have costs; often as a country, we have to make tough decisions about whether those costs are necessary. But what is clear is that we can strike the right balance. We can make our economy stronger and more competitive, while meeting our fundamental responsibilities to one another".

Obama stressed that in no way did he want regulations to chain down growth. This was his promise to business groups, to experts as well to ordinary Americans concerned with the health of the market.

The move was welcomed by the Republicans but they gave the impression that the President, whose party had suffered a stunning defeat in the mid-term elections, had actually taken on their ideas to some extent but he had not gone the full length of it. Eric Cantor the majority Republican leader in the house said, "Today's executive order from President Obama shows that he heard the same message I did in the last elections that Americans are sick and tired of Washington's excessive overreach and overspending". Although he applauded this move of Obama he hoped that further steps would be taken.

The officials of White House denied that there were any political motives behind the move; neither was there any attempt to outdo the newly elected Republicans that have gained power. They contended that this measure was being worked upon for last couple of months. One of the senior officials explained that it was irrelevant whether the move was left, right or centre. The important thing is that it was targeting the welfare of the people of America.

By enacting the new rules Obama is reaching out to the business segment in an effort to give a kick start to job creation. During the first two years of office the critics of Obama had charged him for shying away from big business a view that may have alienated a good section of voters with centrist sympathies.
