Returning to school is huge decision for adults. It takes time from the family, household duties and makes a huge dent in the finances. I was one of those adults that did not even consider college until I was well into adulthood. I was a single mother with three teenage children to feed and clothe, bills and rent to pay. I remember distinctly working extra hours to be able to pay for the only two classes per quarter I could afford to take. I worked long hard hours for the privilege of standing in the bursars office line to make my monthly payment. I got paid twice a month and of the two checks, one went to my college education but I was determined to complete my education regardless of how long it took or how much money I had to sacrifice. I remember being in line on more than one occasion and hearing quite a few students in front of me discussing how much they got for grants. Grants that were used not only to pay for the classes but were also were enough to pay for books and supplies. These grants were assisting many students to purchase the 300 or more dollars worth of books that I was working overtime to pay for. I was new to the college scene so I had no idea the different options available to help with my education, I just knew that I wanted and needed a college education. If you are in the position I was in, knowing you want to go to college but unsure of how to afford it, know there are many, many programs available to assist with financing. One program designed for mothers in particular is Obama's scholarships for mothers. This scholarship is a great program, it can be used in conjunction with other assistance programs available to make getting an education financially possible.
