Nutrition Mistakes All Bodybuilders Need To Avoid

By:

There are various nutritional mistakes that many bodybuilders make which include;

1. Ignoring supplementation

In order to help round the various shortcomings and holes in our diet it is important that we use supplements. There are various bodybuilders who are scared of taking supplements. You need to differentiate between supplements and steroids. Steroids are the ones which bring about side effects and not supplements.

2. Failing to drink enough water

Since the body comprises 70% of water it is important that you constantly drink plenty of it. Water is very important since it comprises the highest percentage of your body muscles. Water is also used to detoxify your body since it acts as a cleanser. If you do not take plenty of it you will not be able to maintain sound health.

3. Taking too much simple carbohydrates

In order to increase your muscle mass you are supposed to increase your calorie intake and that is the reason why many people eat plenty of carbs. You need to ensure that you take plenty of complex carbs and not simple carbs. When you take simple carbs they are easily converted and stored as body fat. Complex carbs however take time before they are digested and this ensures that they are not converted into body fat.

4. Failing to keep a nutrition log

I know that keeping a nutrition log might seem like a very cumbersome job. It is important however that you keep track of what you consume daily if you want to succeed in bodybuilding. If you do not tally your nutritional progress you are not going to succeed in bodybuilding. The good thing about keeping a nutrition log is that it will be easier for you to pinpoint the areas which need improvement.

5. Failing to take sufficient proteins

Proteins are the building blocks of muscles. The importance of proteins to the development of the muscles cannot be overemphasised. You should ensure that you take lean proteins when you go on a high protein diet. Lean proteins will ensure that you do not consume plenty of fat since proteins are usually accompanied by fat.

6. Restricting your carb intake drastically

This nutritional mistake is committed by people trying to lose weight. When you drastically your carbs intake your body is going to go into starvation mode. When the body is in starvation mode it will start to burn muscles instead of fat so that it can be able to preserve energy. When it does this, the body metabolism slows down as a result of the depleted muscles. A person therefore ends up gaining weight as a result of the decreased metabolic rate.

7. Failing to eat a balanced meal

As a bodybuilder you are supposed to focus mostly on proteins and carbs since they are the most essential nutrients needed to develop your muscles. This however does not mean that you should ignore other important nutrients such as vitamins and healthy fat from your diet.
