Review Summary

The convenience of Nutrisystem may be appealing to some dieters, but there are several points to consider before signing on. For instance, is this a practical system for people who cook for more than on person at home? And can even the variety offered by Nutrisystem become tiresome when used for more than a few months on end?

Program at a Glance

Nutrisystem is a mail-order program that delivers a months worth of pre-made diet foods to members.

Program in Focus

There are several options for Nutrisystem, customers ordering foods based on their tastes and gender or simply by buying a package of typical customer favorites. Each order includes 28 days worth of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.

There are several options for each meal; prepackaged dinners, for example, include anything from beef tacos to pasta dishes and breakfasts of eggs, oatmeal, or pastries can be ordered. Nutrisystem makes frequent use of their snack bars, suggesting members replace meals with these bars on a regular basis. Vegetarians and diabetics are offered specialized packages.

Positives

-Convenient as foods require little cooking expertise and are delivered to your door

Negatives

-Nutrisystem does not seem to offer any guidance about weight loss or fitness

-Dieters must continue to eat Nutrisystem foods in order to maintain weight or else find a completely different diet

Costs well over $4,000 a year

Final Thoughts

Nutrisystem is meant for a very particular kind of dieter, the individual who needs to feed only themselves, is looking for a convenient diet, and does not mind frequent repetition in their fare. The biggest downfall of Nutrisystem may be that it does not teach positive eating habits out right. While it may be easy to lose weight on this program, it is doubtful that many of its clients will be able to maintain their ideal weight once going off of it, though some people likely do.

Becoming dependant on diet foods does not help the dieter learn to shop for, prepare, and portion out a balanced diet. Also, food cannot be the exclusive focus of a weight loss routine. Dieters will need to consider an appropriate exercise plan and commit to staying active each day for at least 30 minutes. Lifestyle changes can take you a lot further in your quest for an ideal body than diet foods can.
