Nursing Salary And Its Components

By:

What makes nursing salary very inviting to those who wants to enter the profession? There are a lot of things to be considered in describing good pay for a nurse. It is not only limited to the bottom line of each pay slip but the details in it and the effort exerted to earn it.

The basic salary of a nurse is basically the biggest component of the pay. Depending on the entry level of the nurse, most hospitals commensurate the experience and skills to the basic rate. The more experienced the nurse is, the higher compensation can be expected. Issues on getting appropriate basic rate have been continuously raised by certain nurses especially those who are having their first jobs.

Some hospitals require their newbie to render services without or at below par rates for a certain period of time. Considering that the number of new nurses is more than the experienced ones, these hospitals and clinics are getting services of nurses almost free. Nurses who want to obtain the required years of experience before working continuously as a regular employee are forced to get into these circumstances.

The worst case that have ever been reported regarding the nurses' sentiment of their pay is that some were even asked to pay for their internship, on-the-job training or probationary period of stay in a hospital, in exchange for the experience and the exposure in the hospital practices. What's sad is that, after how many months of looking for a hospital to work for, they'll end up in such kind of institutions that take advantage of their need.

Nursing salary is always augmented by overtime pay. It is seldom that a nurse will just stay at the hospital for exactly eight hours of work. Because of the demanding nature of their profession, they are often required to stay beyond their normal schedule but of course, with the corresponding pay plus the premiums such as night differential pay or double rates in case of holiday duties.

Apart from the basic pay and overtime, other nursing salary packages include the benefits, allowances or bonus pays depending on the discretion of the hospital management. Medical institutions are periodically reviewing the standard bases of rates for nurses so as to compensate the increasing need for their skills and to ensure that they are being paid with a just remuneration that will make them inspired and continue serving their duties.
