Nursing Professionals Can Now Be Medical Doctors

It is indeed great news for practicing nurses and nursing students that they can become professional medical doctors. I am sure every person on medical profession will love to serve human mankind as a medical doctor. There might be times that a very good student would have become or chosen nursing field which is the vital profession in the medical field.

There are two min doors that are opened for nursing students and practicing nurses to become a medical doctor. Nurses must have chosen BSN or clean MCAT. BSN is Bachelor of Science in Nursing and MCAT stands for Medical College Admission Test. Nurses who had taken up BSN is eligible to apply for medical colleges. However, for MCAT every student is eligible to apply. The top scorers of MCAT are qualified for medical courses to become a doctor. MCAT checks the scores every student had got in under graduation. The under graduation scores are required to check if the student is capable of handling the medical course to become a medical doctor. If the student is a practicing nurse, them employment history will be also be checked to check how well the candidate is suitable for the medical course.

The medical course is for 4 years and it is a degree program. Once the medical school approves the application of the candidate, the nurse or student gets enrolled for the four years medical degree program. Had the student of nurse taken any post graduate courses or any pre medical courses, then the candidate will get some credits from the medical school. The post graduate course or pre medical course can be from physics or chemistry or biochemistry or anatomy or biology or physiology. Few medical schools gives credit for the on job experience the nurse had. So, it is an added advantage for nurses who had practiced in any hospitals. The credit is given because the nurse has been practicing simply as a doctor though without a doctor's degree and license.

There are various courses offered by medical schools. Few courses which the nurses can opt for are Physiology & Human Anatomy, Bioethics, Biochemistry, Hematology & Serology, Microbiology, , Principles of Medical Research, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Genetics, Clinical Pathology, Oncology, Pediatrics and additional electives. Students can also take up clinical laboratory subjects along with other regular class room learning. Altogether it will take 4 years for completing the medical course.

Once the student completes 4 years of medical education, the student must take an internship. The tenure of the internship is 12 months that is one year. During the internship, the student is expected to work in a hospital thus having hands on experience. During the internship, the student will work with various medical departments to get exposure in every department. This is the best feature of medical course as the student gets hands on experience. Once the student successfully completes the internship, the final practical and written exams are conducted. The student is expected to clear or pass both the written and practical exams.
