Nurse Cons Nhs Out Of 15k

It has recently been announced that a student nurse has been found guilty of using fake immigration document s to defraud more than 15,000 out of the National Health Service.

Student Succeed Mangava aged 36, began a three year nursing diploma course at Brighton University last February. Ms Mangava applied for a bursary as well as tuition fees after claiming that she had indefinite leave to remain in the United Kingdom.

She then produced a forged Home Office letter that was dated 2000 in order to back up her claim and make it seem real Hove Crown Court heard.

Following a tip off to the NHS's own fraud line it was also discovered that Ms Mangava had entered the UK as a visitor only back in 2002.

She was then granted asylum in December which allows for her to remain in the UK until December 2014. She was arrested for charges of fraud by Sussex Police whilst at her home in Swanley Kent in May this year.

Ms Mangava afterwards admitted forgery and charges of retaining a wrongful credit and this resulted in a 12 month prison sentence, to be suspended for two years.

Nicole McLaughlin, NHS Counter Fraud specialist had stated that the NHS will act "We will follow up any fraud against the NHS that is reported to us.

"The sentence will act as a deterrent to others who might do the same as Mangava at the expense of legitimate candidates for bursaries and training places."

The NHS has a very tough stance on fraud, currently the number of prescriptions being obtained fraudulently by patients is also growing. The NHS is constantly completing audits to ensure that prescription fraud and cases such as Ms Mangava's are found.

If you are found guilty of fraud the NHS will request you pay back the amount you defrauded them out of- in the case of prescriptions this can mean five times the amount of the cost the prescription would have cost if you had paid fairly at the time.
