Nitrous Oxide Gas Plants

By:

Nitrous oxide can be produced by natural as well as human-related sources. In natural form of producing N2O gas is the biological sources in soil and water. And producing N2O Gas by human-related sources of N2O are agricultural soil management, sewage treatment, combustion of fossil fuel, acid production & 'Nitrous Oxide Gas Plants'.

The Process of producing Nitrous Oxide involves melting and decomposing of Ammonium Nitrate by heating to a temperature of approximately 2500 - 2600 C. It gives mixture of nitrous oxide and super-heated steam. Then, the steam and impurities are removed by scrubbing in turn with water, caustic soda and finally sulphuric acid.

Nitrous Oxide Gas Plant Process :

The process of manufacturing Nitrous Oxide consists of :

  • Melting Ammonium nitrate in a melter to a temperature of 250C.

  • This molten ammonium nitrate flows into a combustion pot where ammonium nitrate is decomposed to give a mixture of Nitrous Oxide & super heated steam, according to the following reaction:

    NH4NO3 ------------ N2O + 2H2O

  • This process generates N2O, however, with some impurities including.

  • Ammonium Nitrate fumes, Nitrogen & other oxides of Nitrogen..

  • The steam in the hot gas is condensed by scrubbing with water, caustic soda and sulphuric acid and the entrained moisture and traces of ammonium nitrate get separated in the mist separator.

  • The residual traces of ammonium nitrate, carbon dioxide and other oxides of nitrogen are removed in the caustic scrubbery and the gas is allowed to collect in a mild steel water seal type gasholder.

  • The gas from the gasholder is sucked by a compressors. The most common way of distributing Nitrous oxide is as a compressed liquid in Cylinders of the same kind, as used for oxygen, Nitrogen etc.

  • The compressed gas passes through water separator before being dried in alumna drier battery.

  • The gas is compressed with a compressor, dried in a drier and then refrigerate when it becomes liquid.

  • Liquid nitrous oxide is stored in high-pressure storage vessel into cylinders and the gas is filled by weight.

  • The liquid nitrous oxide from the above storage vessels is sucked by a liquid nitrous oxide plant and liquid nitrous oxide pump for compressing in service/bulk cylinders.

  • Uses of Nitrous Oxide Gas:

Nitrous oxide is chiefly applied for anesthetic purposes. They are applied mainly for:

  • N2O gas is used as propellant in food, perfumes & cosmetics.

  • Nitrous oxide also helpful for Cryosurgery usage.

  • Used as an oxide gas for atomic absorption in spectrophotometry.

  • N2O gas is used as fuel oxidant for vehicles.

  • N2O oxidizing property is helpful for microchips etching.

  • The Advantages of N2O Plant :: The advantages of N2O Gas Plants are as follows :

  • Nitrous oxide plant provides high quality water lubricating compressor & water cooling compressor.

  • By replacing Gas holders to gas balloons it has made the process more advantageous.

  • N2o plants are smooth decomposition operation possible through automatic control.

  • N2O plant is highly economical ensuring minimum water and power consumption.

  • N2O plant has availability of a double drying system.

  • It supports combustion despite its non-flammable .

Features of Nitrous Oxide Gas Plant :

  • Cylinder Testing Station : A cylinder testing station (optional) can be provided to test cylinders.

  • Batch Testing Lab :A small lab must be set up especially for maintaining the complete analysis of batch produced in the plant.

  • Various Plant Capacities : It has capacities from from 15kg/hr, 25 kg/hr, 50kg/hr and 100kg/hr.

  • Complete Back up and Support: Complete installation and after service support are made available.Special training is given in plant operation where experts handle the problems.

  • Extra Care is given to safety in plant layout.

  • These Nitrous oxide gas plants are safe & economical as it uses efficient Generation System which reduces the consumption of power and adds on to safety.
The other way of distributing Nitrous oxide is as the same kind as used for oxygen & nitrogen by the way of compressed liquid in Cylinders.
