Nissan Leaf Named world Car Of The Year

By:

At the 2011 New York International Auto Show, many automobile manufacturers brought together their case for the prestigious World Car of the Year award. In the end, the all new 2011 Nissan LEAF was deemed with this esteemed award by edging out its closest competitors; the BMW 5-Series and the Audi A8.

The Nissan LEAF impressed the World Car Awards jurors with its conventional driving experience. This allows drivers to feel as if they are in a normal car, only quieter. Jurors also commented that, Its low center of gravity produced sharp turn-in with almost no body roll and no under steer. The LEAF is the gateway to a brave new electric world from Nissan.

This 5-seater, 5-door hatchback provides consumers with a driving range of over 100 miles on a full charge and can reach up to speeds of 90 miles per hour. The LEAF is equipped with a 24kWh lithium-ion battery and an 80 kW AC synchronous motor than is 100% electric. Gasoline is no longer required and with that the LEAF releases zero tailpipe emissions.

Nissans Chairman and CEO Carlos Ghosn states that, It is a great joy that the worlds first, mass-marketed electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF, has won the prestigious award of 2011 World Car of the Year. This accolade recognizes Nissan LEAF, a pioneer in zero-emission mobility, as comparable in its driving performance, quietness and superb handling to gas-powered cars.

Inside the vehicle, Nissan has equipped the LEAF with the Nissan Navigation System with a seven inch color display that is powered by CARWINGS. The navigation system helps drivers monitor the batterys charge status, it starts the vehicles charging event, and it is used to activate heating and air conditioning systems.

The LEAF comes standard with many important safety features including; Vehicle Dynamic Control and a Traction Control System. The Vehicle Dynamic Control is designed to automatically stabilize the vehicle that would otherwise slide while braking or corning. The Traction Control System helps apply intermittent braking when tires are slipping. During this, the engine speed is automatically reduced until the vehicle returns to the appropriate traction level.

As we turn the page to a new chapter in automotive history, the all new 2011 Nissan LEAF will have engraved its place as an innovator, an economic reliever for its consumers, and as a total asset to our ecosystem as we know it.
