Newsletters That Get Saved

By:

Newsletters from a company can go to a physical mailbox or an email box. Either place can be dangerous for a newsletter. The newsletter can end up in the physical trash or in cyber trash fast. Either way it can make the effort of putting together a newsletter a waste of time. The goal is to have the current and old newsletters saved. The only way that happens is if there is something of value in the newsletter.

Some of the characteristics of newsletters that get saved:

* Interesting topics-include news, current innovations, and educational articles
* Designs that can be skimmed-the newsletter should be able to be skimmed quickly so that information of interest can be found fast
* Targeted content-not only should the topics be industry related, every reader has a life, include life skills articles that are of interest to everyone, like saving money
* Graphics-even though kindergarten is a faint memory, everyone still likes looking at pictures. Include photos and other eye catching graphics
* Calendars-the calendar should not only have company related events and sales but holidays, industry events (local and national), and local events if possible.
* Printable email newsletters-especially newsletters with calendars, customers want to be able to print out the calendar to post, in addition to valuable articles so they can be shared

To really know what your customers like, you will need to ask them. Statistics and graphs only tell you part of the picture when it comes to your customers. Communicating with them directly gives you the full picture of what your individual customers personally want. This can be done with a phone survey or printed survey.
