President Obama's administration has brought the discussion of federally funded financial aid for students to the forefront since coming into office. This administration has an agenda to provide educational funding for as many people as they can. They propose that educated people statistically have a higher standard of living and also usually contribute more as a whole to the fabric of our society.

Obama grants and scholarships for moms come from the fact that moms are a group that are usually left out in much of the financial aid programs that are available. Many mothers do not think that they can afford the expense of going back to school. President Obama demonstrated his concern about this when he immediately worked to increase the Pell Grant when he came into office.

Pell Grants are the most popularly known federal aid. It is based on financial need, so it is a perfect choice for moms in a lower-income financial bracket, especially single moms trying to make it. This grant is one that you want to approach first when you begin to apply for assistance. The maximum amount was increased from $4100. to $5350. There is discussion about raising the maximum amount even higher on the Pell Grant.

The SMART Grant, or the National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant , is available in the third and fourth year of college to students who are pursuing a degree in the fields of math or science. If teaching is your career goal, the TEACH Grant or The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant is available for you to apply for up to $4000. a year.

The FSEOG, or Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, funding is more federally funded grants available based on financial need. This provides additional aid to people on the lower end of the EFC level, or who have the lowest expected family contributions. Up to $4,000 a year is available through this program.

If you are a younger mom who graduated in 2006 or later from high school, you fit the application criteria for ACG funding, or Academic Competitiveness Grant. This newer funding provides $750 your first year of college and $1300 for the second year.
