Seeing FOX's brand-new fall comedy series New Girl, I can verify the point that it's virtually impossible to think about anyone but Zooey Deschanel within the show and speaking to the press today within the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, Deschanel and the show's creator, Liz Meriwether, were asked whether or not it was specifically written on her behalf.

Replied Deschanel, "I'd want to think that it was written in my situation," while admitting it wasn't. However, she added using a smile, "Liz so i are connected - our souls are connected." Meriwether said she "didn't think I'd find somebody as weird like me," and therefore even though the show wasn't written for Deschanel, that it was this type of natural fit, "We didn't perform a lot of finessing together with the character. It absolutely was a terrific match." Deschanel laughed concerning the luck she'd have playing "someone who sings continuously," up to she does. Deschanel noted that New Girl character, "When there's a difficult moment, she sings."

Meriwether had high praise for Deschanel, saying, "She's so that great inside the show. She's this type of smart actress. This character exists and now we were really trying for any different female character."

New Girl is focused on Deschanel's character, Jess, planning with three guys after the disastrous (but comical) end of the relationship. Meriwether quipped that for Jess, "It's just like if your therapist were three hot guys."

The pilot to New Girl features Damon Wayans Jr. as among the roommates, however Wayans wasn't intended for the series after Happy Endings was renewed. Usually in that scenario, Wayans' scenes would have been re-shot with a brand new actor, but surprisingly, Wayans is remaining within the New Girl pilot, but are able to be prepared within the second episode, with Lamorne Morris joining the cast as being a latest roommate.

Saying these were "really satisfied with what Damon brought," Executive producer Brett Baer said he also liked having the character change-up occur as he felt it reflected exactly what it is usually such as your 20s, with "People relocating and out from people's lives - we wished to capitalize on that." Everyone has a wide range of praise for Morris, who executive producer/director Jake Kasdan noted has originally read with the part Wayans got. Morris then became unavailable, only to then be free when Wayans couldn't adhere to the show.

Without missing a beat, Deschanel replied, "She provided hints on how to take care of the delightfulness of FOX," saying she'd had just good dealings with all the network.

Deschanel has received an excellent film career and was asked if she'd any hesitation about joining New Girl, that could potentially last a long time. Replied Deschanel, "I love we get to work with such people. The thought of executing it for years is exciting! If there's any character I have to play forever and ever, it's this one.
