New Fiat Punto A Definite Good Buy

The new FIAT Punto models are definitely a good buy not only for car collectors but also for the standard motorists who would like to drive around town in a compact yet fuel efficient car. The Italian made Fiat Punto has a long history not only with local drivers and car enthusiasts but also made waves as an official imported European car.

The new fiat punto models take some elements from the previous generations of the fiat punto and blended together with the new elements and technological improvements and advancements to create the perfect mini car for motorists from around the world.

This great supermini was launched in 1993 initially called project 176. The models were basically divided into two generations. The first generation followed the same type of designs for over six years beginning in 1993 and ended in 1999. During this time the Fiat Punto was nominated in 1995 as the European Car of the Year. It became an instant hit amongst car dealers and buyers alike and also managed to steal the spotlight from competing brands like Volkswagen and Opel.

In the first generations run there have been several changes that was made in the overall look of the new FIAT Punto car models. The entry level car without any changes done on it sported either a 1.1 liter or 1.2 liter engine. The company also launched a sporting version of the new FIAT Punto which had a 128 horsepower engine. While it sported a smaller looking engine the supermini was definitely top notch.

The second generation of the new FIAT Punto has become a staple must-buy for new car buyers even until now. It must be important to know that the Fiat Punto has seen two revisions and modifications during its second generation run. The second generation Fiat Punto cars were called locally as Fiat Punto Nuova and codenamed during the production and design period as Project 188. The first batch of the so-called Fiat Punto Nuova cars rolled out of the production house in 1999. It has retained several factors in the design including the unique shape of the car while sporting changes in the interior as well as the chassis. This includes power steering which was adopted into the newly designed cars.

Because of the significant changes made in pedestrian safety regulations the second generation new FIAT Punto cars experienced a facelift which changed the exterior styles and engines drastically.
