Negotiating Your Salary

By:

One of the major problems faced by most people when looking for a job is the amount of salary which they are going to get. If you are already employed and are a part of an important profession that requires your skills it means you have better chances for asking for a higher pay. Many people will give you advice on how to ask about the salary of the position you are interviewing for. I suggest you ignore them because every employer knows that this is one of the most important questions which cannot be ignored.

If your interview in the beginning happens to go right and you give answers confidently you will have no problem in advancing to the question related to your salary. It is important to ask them questions related to your growth in an organization. It is advisable to do some research around the position you are applying to learn the salary ranges within your industry, experience and market. You also need to make sure that they provide you with other benefits as well. This can include a cell phone, lap top or medical benefits. Never ask for too many benefits because this can lead to low income. A great salary is one which is stable and helps in taking care of both you and your family requirements.

Many employers however forget to discuss wages which is why you should arrange another meeting with them. Tell them what you want and determine how much they are willing to offer you. Not discussing this issue can lead to confusion and disappointment from the very beginning. When negotiating the salary make sure you sound confident, this is your right. If you are not satisfied with the initial payment let them know about what you were expecting.
It is possible that you might not get the salary you want however if that does happen there are a few things you need to remember. First, be gracious and inform the employer have other options you need to consider. Tell them you need time, 48-72 hours to determine the best fit financially for you and your family. If the employer does not budge on increasing the salary then you should ask for additional benefits.

Lastly if you have many interviews lined up mention this and let the employer know you have additional options as well. This will reinforce your skill and popularity with the employer which is why other companies want you as well.
