The Temple is dedicated to lord Shiva who is thought to be the most sophisticated God of the Hindu Pantheon. According to legends, this temple is built in the sacred location where Lord Shiva took in the poison that emanated from the churning of the sea (Sagar Mathan) that is thought to have been disastrous for the whole of mankind. To save humanity, Lord Shiva stepped in and as an act of bravery consumed the poison himself, causing his throat to turn blue giving him the name Nilkanth, which translates to mean the Blue throated one, and Mahadhev, which means the God of Gods.
The statue of the primary deity NeelKanth Mahadev is found in the heart of the temple. Opposite to this, one can see Lord Shivas Mount, Nandi; the bull. At the exit of the temple, there is a giant pipal tree with plenty of tiny cloth bundles tied to it, by devotees who have wishes that need to be fulfilled.
