There's more than the price to consider when selecting a natural stone fabricator. Sure, we would all like to get the best price for what we want, but sometimes we think that what's best is the lowest price out there. In terms of granite and marble slab fabricators, the lowest priced isn't necessarily the best. And to find the right one, two things that you should look for are license and insurance.

One would think that license is a basic requirement among all granite and marble fabricators, but there are fly-by-night fabricators out there. The advantage that these offer is the low price of the installation. But that low price tag carries a risk: most of them are not licensed. That means, they have not been verified and cleared by local and national regulations regarding their line of business. These fabricators may not have the necessary qualifications and follow standards set by their profession.

Connected with licensing is insurance. Fabricators that carry a license would almost always carry general liability insurance and workers' comp. Working with granite and marble slabs also entails risk on your property and on the workers themselves. Having insurance covers those risks. That means, should an accident occur in your home during the marble countertop installation, you won't have to worry about covering the damage costs or getting sued for any mishaps that occurred in your property. And insurance is something that you won't get from fabricators that just work on the side, or just work from their pick-up trucks.

As you can surmise by now, fabricators with a license and insurance would naturally carry higher installation fees. But if you think about it, with the assurance that you get, paying extra to make sure that the installation would be done professionally and that you're covered for any damages would make it worth the cost. Though you don't expect for the countertop installation to fail or have problems, it's still best that you're prepared for the worst.

Price, though a major deciding factor, isn't the only consideration when choosing a natural stone fabricator. Two other factors you should look at are license and insurance. A license would mean the fabricator is qualified to do the job, and an insurance gives you peace of mind that you're covered should things go wrong. These two things indicate that your granite or marble countertop installation is in good hands.
