If you work with a lot of computers then use an NAS (network attached storage device). The storage device to stores files share by several computers.

Connected via an Ethernet cable to a wireless router all enable Wi-Fi ready gadgets can have access to the files.

Unlike a typical hard drive, it has its own processor. It can store and share photos, music, video and personal files. It enables all PCs to access and store files on the drive without having to physically plug in a drive to each computer.

NAS are primarily used for data backup, central storage and file sharing among different computers and remote access to photos, video, music and other files.

Its also ideal for home use, because it can effectively store photos and videos. For home use, you can use it by attaching a media adaptor or a game console to the television.

The best NAS drives come with software that can automatically back up every computer on the network. With software users can select the files and even schedule automatic back-ups. Just make sure the software is installed in each computer.

There are even devices with two hard drives, each carrying each other's stored files. This guarantees full data storage in two drives. This procedure is known as mirroring or RAID 1. And so when one hard drive fails the information will be stored on the next.

With the growing popularity of Face book, NAS manufacturers have integrated with social networking sites for easy photo and video uploading from YouTube, Flicker and, of course, Facebook.

Instead of posting on public site, NAS can limit the access to friends. They can even remotely access it from anywhere in the world. Even if the PC is switched off, they can view the file. And since its remote access, they can even watch while having coffee in China.

You don't even have to have a computer to enjoy this feature. You can access it with your Netgear Store, iPhones, BlackBerry or iPod Touch.

When shopping for the Best NAS drive, always consider the storage capacity. It should be from 500 gigabytes to 4 terabytes. How much space do you really need? A rough estimate is the total storage capacity of all computers, times two.

It should come with software that is user friendly. If you use Apples built-in Time Machine backup software on your Mac, look for a drive that is compatible.

Also, make sure it is capable of remote access.
