India"s diversity has bewitched tourists and travelers through the ages. The geography changes from snowcapped mountains to deserts. Similarly, the food and dance forms change as you go further north or south in the country. Hardly any state of India is similar to another. The impact the culture, lifestyle, cuisine and religion of India has had on the rest of the world is vast. India is the birthplace of four religions "" Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism.

There are several cities in India that are worth visiting, and one such city that gains popularity for its booming economy is Bangalore. Known to be the third most populated city in India and listed among the global cities of the world, Bangalore is very much an integral artery in the heart of the nation. As high-tech and advanced the city is, the denizens are humble and remain close to their roots.

Hinduism is the predominant religion in the nation and similar to Buddhism, is considered a way of life while being known to be the oldest religion in the world today. The religion itself has a wide range of practices and rituals and there is no one unified system of belief.

One such ritual that is celebrated through a festival is the Nag Panchami. This festival is a celebration and worship of the King Cobra; Hindus around the world worship images or live cobras on this day. Held on the fifth day after Full Moon in either the month of August, September or October, traditionally married women go back to their homes to celebrate this festival.

The origins of the festival date back to the roots of the religion itself when Lord Krishna slaughtered Kali Naga. Bad spirits are warded off by worship of the snakes, and milk is offered to the snakes that reside in some Hindu temples.
