Myths About Home Built Wind Generators Debunked

By:

Now that we are living in 2009, it is time that we let go of our baggage from the 80s. This article will bring to light some of the myths about the home built wind generator that started back then but that you still hear about.

Myth #1: It Is Okay To Mount A Home Built Wind Generator To Your Roof
False. This has proven to be a very bad decision for many people. A home built wind generator needs to have a solid foundation in the ground and needs to be held down by steel cables. Even though you do see houses with a home built wind generator attached to their roof, this does not mean it is a good idea. Most roofs do not provide the solid anchoring that a home built wind generator needs to with stand strong gusts of wind, especially during a strong thunderstorm. There have been many people that have suffered damage to their homes when a wind gust yanked their home built wind generator from their roof.

Myth #2: Your Neighbors Will No Longer Like You When You Get A Home Built Wind Generator
In the past few years, wind power has really come into the mainstream. What would you think if your neighbor told you he had a home built wind generator and was never going to have to pay a power bill again? Not only would he look like a genius for saving the environment, he would also be investing in this future. The reason people used to not like a home built wind generator in their neighborhood is that they used to be extremely noisy. However, the designs and parts have been refined over the past 30 or 40 years and when the right plans are used, a home built wind generator barely even produces a low hum. And this hum is usually carried away by the wind.

Myth #3: Bird Will Be Killed By A Home Built Wind Generator
Okay, maybe this is a bit sarcastic but what about the coal power plant spewing out thousands of tons of poison into the atmosphere and water everyday? It hardly seems that a home built wind generator with a few 5 or 10 foot diameter blades is any threat to wildlife when there are hundreds of railcars worth of coal being burned just down the road.

As the home built wind generator has become more popular, many people are turning to this solution for their home energy needs. As more people get educated about them, they are slowly learning the truth about producing clean, renewable electricity. They are also saving themselves $1,000s on energy bills and protecting our planet for future generations.
