My Lesson With A True Mlm Leader

By:

Being a professional network marketer, I have the pleasure of meeting other entrepreneurs at various events throughout the year. Some I meet and they are just getting started in the business. They are excited and are just taking in everything that is happening around them. Then, there are those I meet who are just obviously leaders.

I had this very experience at a generic Network Marketing event just a few short weeks ago. I had the pleasure of meeting someone whom I had thought was a true leader, but hadn't quite confirmed it yet. This gentleman is a leader within a system I utilize. We met originally in a forum provided by the system and he just seemed like a good guy. He was answering questions and offering advice. I had asked a couple of questions and he always came back with genuine and knowledgeable answers. We kept in touch here and there and soon realized we would both be attending an upcoming event.

After getting to the event, we connected in person and ended up hanging out all weekend. I picked his brain, we masterminded, we brainstormed ideas. We listened to industry experts together and truly grew in our knowledge of our business together. Now, all that said, what truly separates my mentor in my eyes from other leaders that were at the event was the fact that he had no financial gain in spending time with me. I am not on his team within our mutual system, nor am I on his primary business team.

What makes him an actual Leader in our profession is his willingness to genuinely want to help others achieve their goals. As entrepreneurs, we hear that our goals aren't achieved until we help others achieve their own goals, but there are many who 'say' this, but don't practice it. He truly practices the 'Go-Giver' mentality. By doing more for others than you do for yourself, ultimately, you'll get back 10-fold.

After returning from the event, I continued to 'pick' my mentor's brain via Facebook. He continued sharing his knowledge. Now, one thing I will say is this: I do not take advantage of his willingness to help. I don't call him at the drop of a hat, I don't ask 10,000 questions, etc. I simply asked some critical questions I wanted answers to and will implement the information that is shared. I continue to develop my leadership skills by finding answers myself to pertinent questions. By 'paying it forward' and genuinely helping others who approach me.

I continue to become better as a professional and as a person by learning the skills and actions of those better than me. I will continue to surround myself with people like my mentor and he will continue to surround himself with people better and more successful then he. The cycle will continue as such which is how this profession will continue to develop new leaders. True MLM leaders will walk the walk and talk the talk.

Don't approach life and business as, 'I'll do this (this) with the intent that I'll get (that).' It doesn't work like that. When we are genuine and we truly want to help others reach their highest level of achievement, we too, shall reach ours.
