Music Videos On Social Networking Sites

By: Adam Harrison

So your favorite artist has a new video out but you cant seem to catch it on television. Just your luck, only the last 10 seconds plays when you click on the channel. No worries though, social networking sites offer music videos that users have embedded into their profiles for you to watch. Hey, do a search and find that video and watch it as many times as you want.

Artists and Marketing

There are artists that request their music videos to be released online first to see how they will go over, before releasing to the public on television. Marketing firms will also push for this, so that once uploaded, they can track how many hits or how many times the music video is watched. This will give them the opportunity to see how popular the music video will be before ever releasing it on television. There are some marketing firms that require that a music video be included on a DVD inside the CD packaging when the disk is bought in the store. This makes it an almost exclusive purchase and opportunity to see the music video. Wrong again.

Social Networking Sites

Many social networking sites offer a user to embed music videos into their profile. Just because that CD you bought says that this is an exclusive, does not mean you cannot find it on the internet and watch it for free. Social networking sites are linked with other sites so that you as a user have access to their library of music videos to embed in your profile. Simply visiting these sites while signed in as a user of a social networking site will give you access. You simply search for the music video you want, find it and the code to copy and paste into your profile, and voila! You now have that exclusive video that no one else is supposed to have unless they bought the CD.

Where Are the Videos?

Many users all over the world use these social networking sites to watch music videos, among many others. It has been proven that music is released in Europe faster than it is in the United States, and therefore they have access to the videos first as well. Just as the West coast has access to movies and music before the East coast does. The order of distribution gives some users a leg up in uploading videos to the internet. The more popular the music video is thought to be, the faster it will be uploaded. If you ever wonder how popular a video is, look at the counter at the bottom of the page. This will tell you how many visitors there have been to that page to see that video. Just because you dont necessarily like an artist doesnt mean that someone else doesnt. Search for the name of your video or the artist and name of the song such as Blue October Hate Me Today music video, and see what comes up.
