For many Australian visitor ETA visa holders, going to the museums might not seem to be really an exciting vacation adventure. However museum hopping does have its own merits, and aside from the obvious educational side of visiting museums, you will also find them very much interesting, if not exciting. Here are some of the museums that you definitely must include in your list of places to visit.

The National Museum of Australia in the capital of Canberra would be surely a good first stop for those wanting to know more about the country's history. The museum's entrance itself is a fine work of art that visitors will surely marvel at.

Upon entering, you will find out that the National Museum doesn't quite fit the traditional view of museums held by many. Instead of the usual straight paths, the museum features winding walkways and large spaces. The museum's collection is also of note as it contains some interesting items that has been part of Australian history, such as the preserved heart of a famous race horse named Phar Lap.

On the other hand, if you are interested in seeing dinosaurs (or at least their bones) then you are in luck as there are several museums in the country dedicated for the creatures. The National Dinosaur Museum in Gold Creek Village near Canberra is the largest of these institutions. It houses a wide collection of dinosaur fossils found not only in Australia, but also in other parts of the world as well; including some of the most complete skeletons of dinosaurs native to the country. Kids and adults alike will also surely delight at the size of the life size models of dinosaurs on display. Aside from this huge creatures, the museum also has exhibits on other prehistoric life.

For those looking for something more modern, there are also many museums for you. The National Motorcycle Museum of Australia in Nabiac, New South Wales is a must for all motorcycle enthusiasts. Its main attraction is its large collection of motorcycles from every manufacturer in the country. It also exhibits several notable vehicles that has been a part of Australia history.

And if you are into Australian military history then there are two places that you need to go to. The Royal Australian Air Force Museum in Williams Base in Melbourne chronicles the history of the country's air force from the past to the present it includes displays of the aircraft and equipment used by the RAAF throughout the years. On the other hand, the Western Australia Maritime Museum in Victoria is dedicated to the history of the Australian navy. Its largest attraction is HMAS Ovens, a real navy submarine where you can take a guided tour.
