Muscle Car Talk (torque)

By:

There was a time which probably will never be repeated in the USA and Australia and that is the muscle car era. My personal favourites are the beautiful 2 door coupes with smooth lines, like the General Motors Holden Monaro which were made between 1968 through to 1971. When I was a teenager they were used as an everyday car you had to have a bit of money to have one. And like any teenager that was not an option.

Later in life after buying a home and having children I have been fortunate enough to have owned two of these my first a 1968 HK Monaro Coupe. I restored this car myself in a very small shed/carport off the side of our equally small house, she was beautiful she was painted Champagne just the sound of the colour is all class. By the time she was finished she looked and smelt like a new car.

Much to the annoyance of my wife I worked on her engine at least 3 times. But who is counting!!! Oh the wife was!!! And my beautiful car was good for 512 horse power. I was struck by some sort of madness and sold her for another project and mourned the loss a great deal. My patient wife said I was actually depressed.

By then the muscle cars were booming in Australia I was fortunate to find another this time a 1969 HT Monaro Coupe it was a really good body with no motor. We moved to a house on a half acre with a great shed, the shed I had waited all my life for,(another story) and started a ground up full restoration. Although again my wife was rolling her eyes at me, she realised that this car was a part of me.

I will never sell her she is beautiful with a Silver mink duco another cool name, with a black leather interior. And this one is pushing 600 horsepower, having been re-built twice. Does there need to be anything else done on the car? I would love a supercharger. Time will tell if I can slip that past my wife!

If I thought my last Monaro Coupe was great this one is a stunner I recently took her to a Monaro Club day and won a trophy on her first competition, I felt like a proud beaming parent. My website has pictures of my Monaro as well as my other cars. What is my next project? Who knows I might find something else to do on the Monaro Coupe.
