Muscle Building Exercise

By: Albert Finnellia

The more effort you put into an activity the better results you will achieve. For generations this has been a widely accepted fact that has related to varied areas of life and historically speaking has more often than not been seen as the norm in muscle building exercise. The more time you spend fine-tuning yourself through muscle building exercise, the better athlete you will be. As a consequence it makes sense that the greater amount of time you spend in the gym with muscle building exercise, the stronger and more muscular your body will be. In opposition to what you might understand, the answer with regard to muscle building exercise is an unequivocal no! It is in this type of bodybuilding that conventional knowledge goes straight down the plughole.

When we examine the muscle building exercise from its very roots, it is clear why this is a fact.

Every single process that occurs within the human body is centered around keeping you alive and in good condition and this applies even more so to muscle building exercise. After millennia of evolution the human body has be a finely tuned organism that can adapt well to the specific conditions that are placed upon it. Our body lets us know when we are hungry or thirsty, we get suntanned when large amounts of UV rays are present, we get callused to protect our skin and so forth. So what happens when we break down the body's muscle tissue in the gym through muscle building exercise? To put it simply, the muscles get stronger bigger. By fighting resistance over the muscle's current capacity we have posed a threat to the musculature. The body perceives this as possibly injurious consequently as a natural adaptive response the muscles will increase their size (hypertrophy) effectively guarding the body against the threat. As we consistently further the resistance over time through muscle building exercise the body will persist in adapting and growing.

It seems to be easy and finely it is. However, the crucial thing to understand relative to all of this is that the muscles can only grow bigger and healthier if they are provided with enough recovery time between muscle building exercise. If not given enough recovery time, the process of muscle growth will not occur.

Your aspiration in the gym should be to use muscle building exercise with the least amount of volume required to give an adaptive response. Once your muscles have been forced over their current capacity and have triggered your body's ancient alarm system, you have done your job. Further pressure to the body with muscle building exercise will simply further your recovery time, undermine the immune system and force your body into catabolic shock.

Most people do muscle building exercise way too often and with far more sets than they need to. High intensity muscle building exercise puts much more stress on the body than many people understand. Many people structure their muscle building exercise programs in a fashion that actually counteracts their gains and stops them from making the progress that they need. There are some guidelines that you should follow if you want to achieve maximum gains through muscle building exercise:

Do muscle building exercise no more than three days every week.
Do not let your muscle building exercise go over an hour.
Perform between 5-8 sets of muscle building exercise for large muscle groups (chest, thighs, back) and between 2-4 sets of muscle building exercise for smaller muscle groups (abs, shoulders, biceps, triceps, calves).

Push all sets to the brink of muscular failure and focus on progressing in either reps or weight every 7 days. If you truly train hard and keep a consistent schedule, doing muscle building exercise more often or for a greater amount of time than this will jeopardize your gains.

Muscle building exercise, like all worthwhile things in life, should be done in moderation!
