Moving Your Stuff To A New Place

By:

Getting a new place to live is exciting. Moving to it is not. Frankly, it can really make you wonder if you should have got a new place. The following advice will make it worthwhile.

1. Packing Glasses Nothing is more aggravating than moving your drinking glasses. They break with the slightest of nudges. To avoid this, try stuffing them with your socks. Make sure to wash them after you have moved in!

2. Moving Pace Some people like to do a move all at once, but it can lead to stress and frustration. If possible, try to move in little steps by sticking things in the garage of your new home. Just ask for permission first!

3. Moving Electric Cords Electric cords are simple to move, but problems arise at your new home. What cord goes with what thing? Label them to avoid confusion.

4. The Double Moving Box We are all packrats, but need to do something about it. If you move and find a box you never unpacked, it should go in the trash. Less is more and much easier to carry!

5. Lost Movers If your movers do not show up at your new location, do not panic. Call the company and have them track the lost movers down. Yes, movers get lost all the time. Sometimes they just park and wait for you to call.

6. Professional Cleaners If you are moving out of a rental, professional cleaners are worth their weight in gold. Hire them if you want to get your deposit back.

7. Renovating Your New Place Making renovations to your new place is much like the chicken and the egg. Should you move in first or last? Definitely do the renovations first if at all possible.

8. Biting Drawers If you are moving something with drawers, take them out to save your shins. If you can't, tie a string around the piece to hold them in place.

9. Big Furniture Planning Before you pack up and move something big and heavy, give some thought to your new house. Specifically, where are you going to put it and how are you going to get it in there?

10. Cat Moving Transition Cats get comfortable with their surroundings and do not like to move. At your new home, move their stuff into a room with no access to the outside. Put everything down, lock them in and wait 24 hours.

All and all, the goal with moving should be to make the minimum number of trips possible. This means being efficient. Follow these tips and you should be.
