Movie Review Of License To Wed In High Definition

By:

"License To Wed" is one of those comical movies that Robin Williams is expected to put out every now and again. Mandy Moore gives a touch of innocence to this irreverent comedy. One might wonder why you would pick this one up in high definition though. It is a definite for home theater users. Action sequences are not the only thing best shown in high definition and high def sound is often very overlooked as a part of a movie.

The film begins with Ben and Sadie. Ben proposes marriage and a tropical wedding, but Sadie has her heart set on getting married in the church those in her family cherish. Ben scraps his tropical plans and agrees, but he does not know what he is in for. There are some requirements to getting married in this church.

Enter Robin Williams as Reverend Frank, who teaches the marriage preparation course at the church and will be marrying Ben and Sadie. He introduces himself to Ben along with his young apprentice, who is a bit of a stuffed shirt.

The only booking they can find for the wedding is in three weeks. If the young couple does not take the early booking, they may have to wait several years. They also have to pass the marriage preparation course to be married in the church. This leaves both abstinent as well as challenged.

What we have so far is a pretty predictable plot, but Reverend Frank sets up a number of embarassing and challenging courses for the couple to compete. The couple has to get in their first fight, write their own vows, and even play a driving game where Sadie is blindfolded and Ben must talk her through a drive. They even get setup with two mechanical twin babies who cry and do all the things real babies do. While these pranks are going on, the good reverend bugs the apartment that our young couple lives in so they can be spied on.

Ben finds out his room is bugged and contacts his dysfunctional friend to help. Unfortunately his friend only has bad advice which Ben follows over and over again resulting in the marriage being called off.

After all is said and done, Ben realizes that the only person he should listen to is himself, and he follows Sadie to an island resort where she has gone to forget all the bad things. Just before Ben arrives, her family tells her that she might hold some fault in all this and the husband shows up right on queue. The marriage is held on the beach with Reverend Frank, who flies in for the couple, at hand.
