It has been stated on numerous instances that your office desk and its maintenance is a mirror into who you are. We have all heard the phrase "a cluttered desk means a cluttered mind". You definitely would not want to go to work everyday welcomed by an untidy desk, with papers lying everywhere and crumbs of the snacks you ate on the desk. Unconsciously, that ruins you day before it even begins. Therefore, how can you ensure that your desk and workspace is a sight that you can be proud of?

Above everything else, you must be able to organize your flat files and paper documents. Flat files have the tendency of quickly increasing due to the large volume you will be getting them in, so they can pile up easily. So, it is only correct that you determine immediately those you need and those that you can afford to discard. Afterwards, upon reading or completing a task, you must then store the document in a flat file cabinet so that it can be easily retrieved for future use. If you do it this way, then everything will be organized and orderly and your documents won't have to be placed on your small desk. Flat file cabinets tend to be very affordable and durable.

Another way to improve the appearance of your office desk is by decorating it with a few lively objects. Of course, you should not go overboard and just put so many trinkets there, but a few properly placed decorations can really change the ambiance of your work area. You could put some flowers there, just to have something "alive" on your desk. You could also put some pictures of your family there, like your recent vacation or the like to inspire you.

No matter how you may choose to decorate your workspace, organizing it better will really make you more productive. It will give you a sense of control over your documents, and that will mean a lot the next time your boss sees you in your workspace.
