Call of Duty: Black Ops was released on 9th, Nov, 2010, till now it has been available for a day. 3D technology and new Wager Matches as well as Zombie Mode features are attractive, and then what is the sale? Activision has yet to release any sales figures for the game, but we still can see the success of this game through one aspect: more than one million gamers have already played Call of Duty: Black Ops over Xbox Live within hours of launch.
Even more impressive then the raw number of players is the speed with which that figures was reached. At roughly 2:00 AM PST, just two hours after the games midnight launch on the West Coast, Treyarch Community Manager Josh Olin tweeted the following message:Am I getting solid intel? Is there really almost 1,000,000 players on Xbox LIVE right now??
Of course, Xbox Live has a dedicated community of players, and the Call of Duty games have long been the most played on the service. Black Ops, with its new Wager Matches and Zombie Mode, was bound to make a big splash, but a million players in just a few hours? Thats impressive and amazing.
By now, that count may well have been exceeded several times over. Needless to say, the number of people playing the game on Xbox live likely represents only a fraction of the total number of players who purchased the game for the Xbox 360, and does not account in any way for the number of copies sold to PS3 and PC players.
Make no mistake sales for Black Ops are simply jaw-dropping, and its difficult to imagine that the game will have much trouble blowing past the record set by 2010s biggest entertainment launch so far: Halo: Reachs single day sales total of $200+ million dollars. Will it go on to surpass Modern Warfare 2s single day sales record of $310 million? Activisions sales forecasts for the game have been somewhat conservative. In any case, well know soon enough.
