More Style With Men's Pocket Squares

Did you play four square as a child? The object of the four square game is to receive the ball into your square and then fire it out to another square hoping your opponents will miss the mark. How about Origami? Know anything about it? It is the ancient art of folding paper to make unusual and rather beautiful shapes. When it comes to Men's Pocket Squares you get to do a little bit of both. When you get a nice silken handkerchief as a gift on Father's day or your birthday, and you have no idea what to do with it, we are going to give you some tips on what to do. Certainly, this type of beautiful silk material is not really suited for simply blowing your nose. That is not its best use. And you wouldn't want to use it, then stuff in your pocket like you throw tissue down the toilet either. It has a much higher and more noble purpose than that.

It is meant to be folded properly and displayed as a point of color in the upper breast pocket of your suit. Nothing improves the overall presentation of a well dressed man in a suit than the exquisite detail of a properly positioned pocket square. It adds that bit of color, against the darker suit background, that brings the viewer's eyes upward (because it points that way!) to the handsome face of the suited man. If you don't know this already, women usually first look very carefully at men's shoes, as women mostly are fixated on shoes, not unlike how fixated men are on women's breasts. After the shoes pass inspection, the women usually scans upward over the rest of the body, taking it all in. Men can tell instinctively, when another guy is looking at their crotch, but women frequently get away with checking out the full package without the man being the wiser. Maybe this is because guys are so attracted to breasts that they don't notice where a woman is actually looking. So if you pass the shoe inspection, and she is at least a little curious about what is in the package, her eyes naturally scan upwards, they register the tie of course, but what happens after that? If there is no intriguing pocket square they might be bored at that point and simply look away. But if the pocket square is attractive, placed properly, and fits the rest of the ensemble, it points them subconsciously to look directly up into your eyes. Once you catch their eyes (and temporarily ignore their breasts) the possibility of romance is increased one hundred fold.

Now back to the folding part. There are many ways to fold a handkerchief so it can be presented as a pocket square. And yes if you are totally inept you can cheat and buy pocket squares that are already folded, essentially the folded cloth is stapled to a piece of cardboard, you put the cardboard in your pocket and voila the cloth extends upward from the pocket in a perfect fold.

I prefer to do it the old fashioned way, take a regular square silk handkerchief, and fold it correctly, then iron in the creases, because it is fun. If you are good at this you can make the one point, two point, three point, flat, puff, double point roll, four point crown, three stars, and winged effects. It takes a bit of patience, but it is kind of like surfing, there is a feeling of Zen to it when you make a complicated result and you put the genuine article in your pocket knowing full well she will be looking in your eyes because of it, later in the evening.
