You can go online and find hundreds of WebPages offering their special deals. The Internet is literally swamped with them. I found that Nationwide is on my side, I get savings and more with Progressive, Geico is number oneEVERYWHERE, or so they say and Liberty Mutual offers forgiveness. I read on a blog that they all have borderline false advertising. How can I know which ones to trust? It isnt only about cheap, there is also the question of: Will they come through for me when I file?

First of all I need to decide what my personal needs truly are.
In my case, my car in not expensive, so I can exclude the comprehensive and the collision coverage. What I need is coverage on Liability and Personal Injury Protection.

I could also get a lower liability coverage since I consider myself a confident and prudent driver. In this case I can get the minimum amount of liability coverage required in Maryland.

Its paramount to shop around and compare all the companies.
In doing this, I not only know the rates that are out there but also what benefits the different companies provide. Sometimes getting a lower rate is not as important as the services provided by the insurers. This does matter.

Ask people who you know have had fender-benders or been in accidents and have had to file claims. Did their insurance company respond to their needs? How long did it take? Are they still waiting on them to fix your car?

What is a deductible? When you file a claim after an accident, a deductable is the amount that you are required to pay before your insurance company pays for the rest. You can choose to pay a higher deductible, which in case your premium will be lower. The deductible is paid out of pocket in the case of an accident. Depending on you and how you drive, you might want to pay a higher deductible because the chances of you having an accident are less if you are a prudent and responsible driver.

Honest information: Any and all insurance companies will ask you a load of questions when applying for a policy with their company. It is very important that you answer truthfully.
While the company investigates you, you can investigate the company, and you should.

What is the insurance companys financial strength and what is its complaint index?
Will the company be able to satisfy your claim? If so, it is financially strong and thats what you need. To know the financial strength of the company, there are independent rating organizations to answer these questions for you. Some of the companies are not even licensed.

Does the insurance company have quality customer service? Call the States Insurance Department to find out the complain index of the insurance company. This is measured by the number of complaints against the company.

Find out if your premium will be raised if you move from one state to another. I have a neighbor who never once used his auto insurance in 33 years. He had a clean driving record, as well. Then, last year he moved from one area of the State to another and his rates went up 49%! Why?

Cheap Auto insurance? Good luck!
