Moisturizers - Are They Essential For Good Skin?

Moisturizers are very essential in order to maintain healthy looking skin, without moisture your skin would become dry and flaky and may sometimes peel, and this is where moisturizers come in. They help keep our skin hydrated and protect it from harmful external influences such as the sun and winter weather conditions. Moisturizers do not necessarily replace moisture to the skin, what they do is keep your skins natural moisture from evaporating by forming a barrier between the skin and the air and they temporarily trap the water in the skin, which gives it a smoother, softer appearance.

There are many different types of moisturizers and choosing the right one is very important to getting the best results, choosing the wrong kind of moisturizer can actually cause problems to your skin, also it should be noted that using too much moisturizer can be just as harmful as using no moisturizer at all. Moisturizers are supposed to protect the skin from dryness by attracting moisture deep into the skin cells, which makes the skin tissues plump and swells the skin with water. Just a note that you should keep in mind when applying moisturizer to your skin, you should always do so when your skin is damp preferably just after a shower or when you wash your face, because damp skin tends to seal the water in.

There are many various types of skin moisturizers for the various types of skin such as oily, dry, normal and depending on your skin type there are balms and creams which are the thickest moisturizers and are usually recommended for dry skin. Then there are lotions and oils which are usually lighter with more fluids and these are recommended for oily skin. Finally there are the gel based moisturizers which are clear and are supposed to be the lightest skin moisturizer of all, and are supposed to be suitable for all types of skin.

Although moisturizers are a great lubricant for the skin, these alone cannot help your skin look smooth and young and beautiful, you will have to use these in conjunction with a good diet plan and by drinking lots of water and exercising. You also need to nourish the body from the inside in order to get the results of healthy looking skin, so you should practice having a good diet by eating lots of fruit and vegetables and drinking lots of water. Exercise is also important because it not only gets the heart pumping, but also helps distribute oxygen to all parts of the body including the skin. By following these simple rules you are sure to have healthy, smooth, youthful looking skin.
