Moissanite Engagement Rings

By:

Moissanite is a simulated diamond compound that so greatly resembles real diamonds that it is impossible to determine that it's not a diamond without testing equipment specific to that purpose.

Moissanite was not originally a lab created stone. It was first discovered by Moissan while examining rock samples from a meteor crater in 1893. It resembles diamonds so closely that moissanite was first mistakenly identified as diamonds. Ten years later the crystals were identified as silicon carbide and named Moissanite. No other source other than meteorites had been encountered until some was found in kimberlite in a diamond mine and in Wyoming. Moissanite in nature is very rare, but lately it has been lab created and sold as a diamond simulate in a variety of jewelry including moissanite engagement rings or opal engagement rings.

These moissanite engagement rings are now so plentiful that you can even buy them on the Internet's favorite store, Amazon. Moissanite is not a true diamond simulant since it has it's own look and chemical composition and on it's own is quite remarkable, but it is being sold as a diamond alternative and simulated diamond.

The moissanite engagement rings found on Amazon are not cheap looking but very beautiful and in some high quality metal. There are 14k white gold and 14k yellow gold rings with moissanite stones. There are even two tone moissanite engagement rings. You would probably expect to pay several thousand dollars for an engagement ring but you'll be happy to know that very big and nice rings can be had for well less than a thousand dollars.

You can even find moissanite engagement rings made out of 18k yellow gold. Due to the price of gold, these rings will cost more than a thousand dollars especially if they have a thick band or use a lot of metal in the ring design. For an 18k yellow gold moissanite engagement ring that is a solitaire, you can most definitely get one for under $1,000 especially with the discounts that Amazon gives on all it's products that it carries. There are so many stunning ring designs that it makes sense to buy a cheaper moissanite engagement ring than a more expensive diamond one. Especially since you don't know whether the diamond ring is a blood diamond or not. For all of these reasons, getting a moissanite engagement ring instead of a diamond ring is a very good idea.
