Why not Mobipocket?

Mobipocket is both an ebook reader and an ebook creator that is free from Amazon. There are certain cases where you might want to use Mobipocket, but for the most part you should think hard about using them if you are a business owner. Let me outline the reasons.


1. Ebook readers like the Kindle pay you pennies for your sales. You don't have control over how much you give to Amazon: Amazon decides for you.
2. If you have a book priced over $9, forget about it. Think of how many times you've bought a book on Amazon for more than $20, or even $10. Yet, if you have your own website, you can sell your ebook for as much as you want. $67, $97, and even $150 are common prices.
3. No affiliate program. In fact it is almost as though you are the affiliate.
4. You can't include videos in these kind of ebook readers.
5. They're not your customers, because you don't have their information. Kindle is like Walmart. They are Walmart's customer. This is what Amazon wants you to do, because it will build their content and their list.
6. Have you ever heard the expression in internet business, the money is in the list? You are not building a list—you are not building a business.
7. Its user functionality is not as developed as other ebook creation software.
8. Mobipocket and these other free ebook creators make it easier to go down the wrong path. Have you heard of a single person using Mobipocket who has made a real solid income?

Here's my recommendation to you if you are serious about being a business owner and serious about making sales from your ebook: have your premium book on an ebook creation software then put it on the Kindle, and tell your customers that the premium version is on your website (with the videos etc) then you are using Amazon to advertise for you.
