Missionary Gift

Missionary Gift

By:

LDS missionaries are out serving in the mission field for up to two years. During this time they spend birthdays, holidays and other holidays and important celebrations away from home. They rarely even get to communicate with their family, friends and other loved ones during this time except on Christmas Day and Mother's Day. This limited contact with family makes it even more important to let your missionary know that you have not forgot about him and that you are thinking about him. The best way you can do this is by sending a gift or care package.

Like most anyone else, missionaries love to receive gifts and packages in the mail reminding them that they are still remembered and thought of often. Holidays and birthdays are a great time each year to give your missionary a special gift. However, because of the missionary's Spartan lifestyle and restrictive mission rules, missionaries are not the easiest to buy presents for. Here are a few ideas to help you out when selecting that perfect gift for your missionary:

- Neckties: missionaries have a very conservative wardrobe and don't have much in the way of individual style options with their wardrobe. Neckties are about the only piece in the missionary's wardrobe where they can express their own individual style. Pick neckties that are conservative in color, width and design, yet are fun. Avoid designs, pictures or bright colors that may be distracting to the message your missionary is sharing.

- Snacks: missionaries are young, growing men and as such, require a lot of energy. This energy must come from the food and snacks they eat. Put together a care package with their favorite snacks. Make sure to include snacks that are healthy as well. Remember, your missionary has a companion that he is always around so pack enough snacks for the both of them.

- Photo Book/Journal: missionaries spend a long time away from home and miss out on a lot of activities that their family does in their absence. Include your missionary by putting together a photo book/journal where you document important events with photos and descriptions with family members accounts of what was happening. This type of gift will last forever and will prove to be their favorite.

Whatever you choose to get your missionary, remember why they are out serving and make sure the gifts you give help support them in their role as a missionary. Be creative and thoughtful and above all, give gifts that come from the heart. Gifts from loved ones will be a welcome treat in the day-to-day life of any LDS missionary.
