With tantalising local cuisine, excellent shopping opportunities and an energetic and vibrant nightlife, it is no surprise that Singapore is one of the most popular destinations in Asia. The Lion City, home of the iconic Merlion, attracts some of the biggest stars of the music industry, whose performances bring in fans from around the world. Not only is it a hub for leisure but it is also an important node in the world of commerce as well. For such a small nation, it shows a surprising amount of diversity; the blend of different traditions and cultures make the island a destination unlike any other.

Chinatown is one of the country's most active regions and is always abuzz. It is a must visit area for the travellers to Singapore. While the population in Chinatown is predominantly Chinese, one can find a famous mosque (Jamae Mosque) and a renowned temple (Sri Mariamman Temple) in the district. The streets of Chinatown are lined by a myriad of tiny stalls selling a variety of things. It is a terrific place for shopping and dining, having a vast selection of traditional Chinese restaurants to choose from.

The city has become synonymous with Chinese festivals in Singapore, and is usually the focal point of such celebrations. The Mid-Autumn Festival is a very important Chinese festival and is celebrated all over the world on the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. The festivities revolve around Chang Er, the Goddess of the Moon in Chinese mythology. According to legend, Chang Er floated to the moon and made her home there after drinking an elixir that granted her eternal life.

In 2011, the festival occurred on the 12th of September. Chinatown was illuminated with fairy lights, and a street bazaar was held, lasting almost two weeks. The celebrations in 2012 are bound to be more grand, something tourists planning on visiting Singapore next year should keep in mind. Another thing to remember when looking for Singapore hotels is its proximity to an MRT Station, which can make getting around a lot easier. The Millennium Hotels Singapore has several hotels in Singapore. All their hotels have excellent locations making them the ideal choice.
