Mens Style Advice - Nsfw Men's Fashion

By:

A sizable chunk of the fashions that every man owns is dedicated to the workplace. From neckties to lace-up shoes, office attire likely makes up a good part of your clothing costs. But even with all these cubicle-bound clothes, many men still make mistakes with regard to how they dress for the office. And unless you spot these mistakes for yourself, a faux pas could mean a warning or worse a pink slip from your supervisor.

Turn Away from the Tight
It's often cited for women, albeit for completely different causes. A lot of men do like to wear tight clothes for one reason or another. Regardless of how tanned or toned you are, too-tight clothing is never appropriate fashion for any kind of workplace. The lack of fabric tends to show too much of your body which is exactly what office attire wants to avoid.

Besides several counts of indecent exposure, there's another reason why you should keep away from tight clothes: they make movement difficult. It's a big problem if your job has you bending, squatting or exerting yourself in any way. Try going up a flight of stairs in too-tight trousers and you'll see why tight fits should be avoided like the plague.

Do yourself a favor and get clothes that fit just right overly loose clothes are just as egregious as too-tight ones, even if it'll cost you a bit more. The more positive image you create for yourself in the office will be worth your additional expense. Besides, you can easily make up for all that once you get promoted.

Skin is Sin
Guys with well-built chests can often pull off a v-neck shirt well. But once that same guy enters the office, he should swap out the shirt (or at least cover it up) with something a bit more conservative. Regardless of your physical condition, showing any skin other than your face, hands and neck will be inappropriate for the office.

Sheer, see-through shirts have the same problem. You might not be explicitly exposing excess bits of your body, but people get to see them anyway. Office attire often prescribes suit jackets because people are supposed to be decorously covered up at work. Get a clue.

Look at what the boss is wearing and then check how much skin he's showing. Follow his lead and you'll probably get the balance of conservative and professional just right. Besides, you can't go wrong when you're following a boss fashion-wise.

Don't Do Denim
Unless it's casual Friday or your company's annual picnic day, denims should be a no-no on office premises. As universal as they might be in the world of men's fashion, the office is one realm where jeans are firmly kept shut out, and for good reason. Historically, jeans were reserved for workmen. Technically, they're reserved for casual occasions. So unless you're a laborer or attending the aforementioned picnic, jeans should be left at home.

Even on casual Fridays, there's a certain kind of denim that you should bring to the office. Only the darkest and most conservatively cut jeans should be worn on casual Fridays, and even those should be dressed up with a nice shirt and a blazer. Wearing light jeans and, God forbid, a t-shirt is the surest way to get mistaken as (or become) the delivery guy.

Office dress codes exist for a single reason: to be followed. If they say 'coat and tie,' then wear a coat and tie regardless of your sartorial inclinations. Feel free to experiment within the limits, different patterns of shirts or boldly colored neckties, for example but never, ever stray beyond the rules.
