Mens Loafers - Dress Code Basics For Wearing Loafers

By:

Loafers give men the ease of not having to worry about shoe laces and yet having style and comfort. That is why it is growing in popularity and being worn more often nowadays. There are a few things you should consider though before showing up on your first week on the job wearing loafers.

What is the Work Place Dress Code Norm?
Wearing Loafers is more fitting for casual attire while dress shoes (ones with shoe laces) are for more formal wear. Observe the usual dress code; keep your eyes open during interviews and the job offer. If the bosses and the other employees are wearing dress shoes, then you should follow suit. If the norm at the work place is casual attire, then you can wear loafers to work. You should follow the dress code norm at the work to make sure that you will not be over dressed or under dressed.

Which Kind of Loafers Should You Get?
The primary consideration when choosing shoes, loafers included, is what color to get. Darker shades, like black and darker brown, look more formal than lighter shades of shoes. Decorations on shoes, like a tassel, would make them look less formal so choose less decorated loafers if you are planning to wear them to the office. The sole is also one aspect that should be considered. Loafers that have rubber soles will look more like a pair of sneakers than that of a formal dress shoe. Again, check the dress code at work so you can pick a fitting pair of loafers.

Is it Alright to Wear Loafers When Wearing a Suit?
Never wear loafers with formal looking dark suits with neckties. You can only wear dark colored formal loafers, those that have leather soles, can be worn with suits that have lighter shades like blue, beige or tan. Loafers are more commonly worn during spring and summertime when the weather is warmer.

How Should Care For Your Loafers?
Loafers should be taken care of just like any other leather material, to keep them shiny and in good shape. Get a weather protective spray and use it on the loafers before you wear them to keep them looking as new as the day you bought them. You can also use show trees each time before you put the shoes away when you get home. Use shoe polish regularly to keep them shiny at all times.
