Mens Fashion Tips For Spring And Summer

By:

Spring is a wonderful time of the year. The weather warms, the flowers bloom and you get a reason to update your wardrobe. With neither the thick coats of winter nor the tank tops of summer, dressing for spring is a whole other affair that every fashionable man has to learn himself.

Think Thin
Now that the weather's become more agreeable, it's time to put all your thick clothes back into the closet. It's mothballs once again for your gingham-lined jeans, thermal henleys and cold weather tees. Thin cotton shirts, polos and tees are de rigeur for these warmer days; you'd just be uncomfortable otherwise.

Certain places like Canada and the east coast have a slightly colder spring than most of the other states. If you live in a place like that, you could still do long-sleeved shirts or a slightly thicker pique polo. Don't go too thick, though, because that's not the only thing you'll be wearing.

Love Your Layers
Most fashion-conscious guys love spring because it's a season for layering your clothes without adding too much bulk. The weather's cold enough for you to wear an additional layer of clothing or two, but not cold enough for you to have to dress like an Eskimo.

Start with a simple black or khaki jaket, preferably the zippered variety, because you can easily wear it to work for any season. A black or navy sports jacket also works well if you want to have a younger, edgier look; just make sure that it doesn't match your pants or jeans for the day so you don't look like something that wandered out of the boardroom.

Guys from colder areas can even try pulling off a coat. Although full-length, completely lined coats won't be useful until at least fall, knee-length trench coats are a classic choice for spring, especially in old-fashioned beige or black. A more modern look, meanwhile, would call for a shorter option like a car coat or pea coat. Instead of black, you could try them in black or navy, and then get brass buttons to amp up the style.

Don't fret if you're not an outerwear buff; there are still some layering options for you. You could, for example, pair a tee with a complementing pique polo. Wear a sky blue tee under a mint green polo, or perhaps a bright orange polo over a light yellow tee. It's a fresh, young look that will keep you warm yet comfortable. To add attitude, just fold the sleeves up bunched together, or simply pop the collar.

Start with the Shoes
Big boots and chunky work shoes are more safety requirements than fashion statements in winter. Spring, on the other hand, is your season to step out in high style.

Sneakers, if they're allowed in your office, are a good idea for spring because they're light and casual to match the season. For more formal need, you can bring out your wingtip shoes and leather loafers without fearing the potential damage from snow and slush. Keep in mind that you don't always have to wait for special occasions; if your new jeans look perfect when paired with your favorite loafers, then by all means wear them together.

As a season for fashion, spring is all about balance. Because your choices of clothing are so wide open for a whole stretch of three months, your biggest concern should be keeping yourself from going overboard with your style choices.
